The following are some examples of rules that are unique to the sport of Ball Hockey:

Floating Blue Line

The most common difference from Ice Hockey to Ball Hockey is the Floating Blueline rule.  

The floating blueline is used in ball hockey because players are not able to move as quickly and fluidly as ice hockey.  This rule is designed to give players a bigger area to attack in the offensive zone to compensate for this. 

The rule is as follows:

Players must gain the attacking blue line in exactly the same manner they would in ice hockey.  The ball must precede all attacking players to set the zone.  Once that zone has been set, the attacking zone reverts to the red center line.  Players are free to participate in the play, make passes, and control the ball anywhere inside the red line. 

The defensive team must then propel the ball beyond the red line(center ice) to clear the zone.  Once that is done, all players must clear the attacking zone and the zone is no longer set.  The ball must again cross the BLUE line to gain the zone again.

High Sticking the Ball

If any player makes contact with the ball above their shoulders, they are assessed a Minor Penalty instead of the stoppage of play found in Ice Hockey.
